Adult Second Language Acquisition (Generative Framework) and Applied Linguistics: acquisition of functional categories and variability in the interlanguage grammar at initial, intermediate, advanced and ultimate attainment levels. Also, Second Language Acquisition (English and Spanish) by speakers of other L1 languages: mental representations, the status of functional categories and related parameterized properties (e.g. DPs, NPs, VPs, CPs, Definiteness, Tense, Aspect, Mood, etc.); the role and nature of input in L2 acquisition; the effect of instruction in L2; the role of non-linguistic factors in L2 acquisition.
